Botox Treatments and Botox Cosmetic for Wrinkles
Botox (BTX) or botulinum toxin is a purified protein derived from the first of seven neurotoxins produced by a bacterium called Clostridium. When injected, BTX simply blocks the transmission of information from nerve cells to muscle cells. This action temporarily relaxes hyperactive muscles. Botox treatments are likely one of the safest injectables ever used in the history of medicine. Besides being a blockbuster drug in the cosmetic world, the effects of botulinum toxin has been so beneficial in so many medical and surgical conditions, from infants to the elderly, that its medical uses now far outpace its cosmetic use.

In cosmetic dermatology, BTX is most frequently used to smoothen frown lines, horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet. It is also highly effective to relax:

  • Smoker’s lip lines
  • Down turned mouth corners
  • Turkey neck bands
  • Peach pit chin

Why Botox Treatments?

Noted primarily for the ability to reduce the appearance of some facial wrinkles, Botox injections and Botox treatments are also used to treat such problems as repetitive neck spasms (cervical dystonia), excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), overactive bladder and some causes of crossed eyes. Botox injections may also help prevent chronic migraines in some people. Botox treatments are used to treat muscle spasms and to remove wrinkles. There are many different uses for Botox treatments and if you are not sure if Botox treatments are right for you, ask one of our doctors. After a complete exam we can determine if Botox treatments are right for you and your situation.

How long do the effects of Botox last?

Most patients find that the effects of the injections last approximately 3-6 month . Most of my patients come 3-4 times the first year and then 2-3 times a year after that. After the muscles have been relaxed for awhile, it takes less to maintain that relaxation. But every patient is an individual, and there is no knowing exactly how you will respond.

How long does Botox take to work?

The effects are may be first noticed in 72 hours but it may take up to 7 days to maximize the effect. You may be asked to return after the first treatment so that your provider can assess your response. The first set of injections may only give a partial response. This is common and complete relaxation may be noticed after the second or third treatment.

Botox treatments are relatively safe when performed by an experienced doctor. Both men and women can benefit from Botox treatments.
