THE SCIENCE

  • Proper eye protection is provided
  • A Zimmer cooling device cools the skin for both thermal protection as well as comfort. The treatments feel like the effect of a rubber band snapping on the skin.
  • Rather than tracing vessels, a field treatment is generally performed to include the entire area prone to widened blood vessels. Small angiomas can be targeted individually.
  • There is some post treatment rosiness of the skin. Temporary purplish discoloration of some vessels can occur, lasting for a few days and can be covered with a concealer.

THE TREATMENT

  • The Cynergy Multiplex laser is the only laser of its kind. This innovative device combines two lasers: a pulsed dye laser (PDL) and a long pulse Nd:YAG laser. The pulsed dye laser is considered “the gold standard” for treating smaller, more superficial vessels. The Nd:YAG laser provides greater depth of penetration and targets larger vessels. Multiplex is a new concept that sequentially emits two optimal vascular wavelengths via a single fiber. It permits independent usage as well as their combined usage.
  • This device takes advantage of the chromic (color) shift of vessels during treatment. The PDL fires first causing the red vessel to turn a dusky color, a perfect target for the Nd:YAG laser which fires milliseconds later. The resulting effect is an increased treatment efficacy.
  • In addition, this laser can customize settings depending on vessel depth, density color, size, flow and considerations for safety and efficacy.
  • The Cynergy Multiplex Laser is manufactured by Cynosure, Inc., Westford, MA

Frequently Asked Questions

This innovative procedure combines two laser technologies to address a range of skin issues. When used in combination with the long-pulse laser, the pulsed dye (PDL) laser targets a specific set of blood vessels (which are the root of many skin concerns) and leaves surrounding skin untouched.

Some laser procedures do not use true laser technology, which limits the type and severity of skin issues they can treat. PDL-NdYag Cynergy Multiplex is a versatile way to address cherry angiomas, wrinkles, stretch marks, port-wine stains, scars, warts, rosacea, generalized redness, broken veins/capillaries, and more.

Most sessions take between five and 20 minutes depending on the size of the skin issue being treated. Typically, dermatologists recommend more than one session to fully address any concerns that are present.

On their own, laser procedures usually offer permanent results for most skin concerns. However, there are a variety of factors that impact the permanency of treatment, including a person’s skin care routine, outdoor sun exposure, and the type of condition being treated. For example, someone with large, dark port-wine stains may not see their skin concern completely disappear.
